چکیده

Transplant recipients are known to be susceptible to primary viral infections or to reactivation of a persistent virus. Most of the clinically relevant infections are caused by the herpes-viridae group (CMV, EBV, VZV, HSV I and II). Human parvovirus B19 was first discovered 1975 in human packed blood [1] and subsequently shown to cause fifth disease or erythema infectiosum in children [2]. The virus also causes aplastic crises in patients with underlying haemolytic anaemia [3-5]. Chronic parvovirus B19 infection can induce pure red cell anaemia in patients with congenital immunodeficiency, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, and children with lymphoblastic leukaemia. Pure red cell anaemia due to chronic parvovirus B19 infection has rarely been described in organ transplant recipients: Nour et al. [6] reported on five paediatric liver and heart recipients, Ramage et al. [7] described the case of a liver transplant recipient and in a report on renal effects of immunoglobulin therapy Cantu et al. [8] mentioned a patient with parvovirus B19 infection after combined heart-kidney transplantation. Some of these patients with persistent parvovirus infection were treated successfully with high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (HD-IVIG).

Pure red cell aplasia caused by Parvo B19 virus in a kidney transplant recipient.

Parvo B19 is a single stranded DNA virus, which typically has affinity for erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow and produces a severe form of anemia known as pure red cell aplasia. This condition is particularly worse in immunocompromised individuals. We herein report a young Nepali male who developed severe and persistent anaemia after kidney transplantation while being on immunosuppr...

Pure red cell aplasia caused by parvovirus B19 in a heart transplant recipient

A case of parvovirus B19-induced pure red cell aplasia occurring in a heart transplant recipient is reported. The diagnosis of this rare but clinically important complication can be suspected on the basis of the pathognomonic morphological features of the bone marrow.

Pure red cell aplasia in a simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation patient: inside the erythroblast

A case of pure red cell aplasia in a simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplant recipient on immunosuppressive therapy is reported here. The patient presented with anemia unresponsive to erythropoietin treatment. Bone marrow cytomorphology was highly suggestive of parvovirus pure red cell aplasia, which was confirmed with serology and polymerase chain reaction positive for parvovirus B19 DNA in pe...

Parvovirus B19 and the kidney.

Infection with parvovirus B19 causes several clinical syndromes (fifth disease, transient aplastic crisis, pure red cell aplasia, and hydrops fetalis) and may contribute to other illnesses. B19 has been linked to renal disease in three settings: As a cause of acute glomerulopathy and as a cause of anemia in ESRD and kidney transplantation. Case reports implicate parvovirus in the pathogenesis o...

Parvovirus B19 seroconversion in a cohort of human immunodeficiency virus-infected patients.

Erythrovirus B19 (B19V) infection may cause red cell aplasia in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The introduction of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has improved the immune function of these patients by modifying the course of B19V infection. The purpose of this study was to estimate the frequency of B19 seroconversion in a cohort of HIV-infected patients ...
